I've been toying with the idea of installing paint protection film on my car myself to save some money, because the quotes I'm getting from professional installers are pretty eye-watering, but I'm also realistic enough to know that I'm not a professional and there's a good chance I'll mess it up if I try to do it myself. I've watched a bunch of YouTube tutorials and some of them make it look surprisingly straightforward, but I know those videos probably edit out all the frustrating parts where things go wrong, and the reality is that even a small mistake can ruin the whole install and end up costing me more than if I'd just paid a pro in the first place. I'm comfortable with detailing and I've applied vinyl decals before, but PPF is a completely different beast because it's thicker, more rigid, and requires precise stretching and heating to conform to complex curves without creasing or silvering. I also don't have a temperature-controlled environment to work in, which seems like a big deal because dust particles can get trapped under the film if the air isn't still and clean.
