Does AI feedback help you revise essays more effectively?

I’m interested in how others use AI when revising academic essays. I find feedback easier to evaluate when it addresses a specific problem, such as whether a paragraph supports the thesis or whether the evidence actually justifies a claim.

When reviewing a draft with an essay drafting tool, I prefer to ask it to identify unclear reasoning before suggesting any rewritten text. For example, I might ask which paragraph needs more explanation or where the argument depends on an assumption I have not addressed. That gives me something to examine rather than a replacement paragraph to accept.

My main concern is that improving the language can make an unresolved problem less noticeable. A sentence may sound more academic after editing while still making a claim that the cited source does not support. I would therefore check the reasoning and references before working on style.

Has anyone here found a useful way to request this kind of feedback? I would be interested in examples of prompts that helped you identify a weakness in your draft and decide how to revise it.
