I am renovating a mid-century home and considering horizontal sliding glass for the bedrooms to save space. What are the actual pros and cons of installing modern slider windows compared to traditional crank-out styles?
Hello everyone! Horizontal sliding glass is excellent for areas where you want unobstructed views and do not have exterior space to swing a sash outward. Because they glide on a track instead of lifting, modern Slider Windows are incredibly easy to operate, especially for wider openings. The main drawback is that their weatherstripping doesn't seal as tightly against high winds as compression seals do. You also have to keep the bottom tracks completely clear of dirt and pet hair so they continue to glide smoothly over time.
The dirt in the bottom track is definitely something I hadn't considered with two golden retrievers in the house. I will have to weigh that extra maintenance against the convenience of saving exterior patio space.
