One thing I find interesting about the Greatest Commandment is that Jesus connected loving God with loving other people. The teaching commonly described as loving your neighbor as yourself shows that faith should influence how people treat those around them. The Greatest Commandment therefore includes both devotion toward God and responsibility toward others. Loving a neighbor can involve kindness, forgiveness, generosity, patience, honesty, and compassion. It does not necessarily mean agreeing with everyone, but it does encourage people to recognize the value and dignity of others. I think this makes the commandment highly practical because relationships are part of everyday life.
