4.1 INTRODUCTION

The applications of ICT in our daily life have changed the ways individuals access and elaborate knowledge. In the 21st century, digital skills are essential for learning and even living a successful life (accessing resources at anytime and anywhere). In order to grab the new opportunities, digital technologies are opening possibilities in many areas. Individuals have to develop the right set of skills to make meaningful use of these technologies in their life. Increasing use of digital technologies at work (especially in teaching & learning) is raising the demand for new skills along with the following directions-

• ICT specialist skills to programme, develop applications, and manage networks.
• ICT generic skills to use such technologies for professional purposes.
• ICT complementary skills to perform new tasks associated to the use of ICTs at work, e.g. information-processing, self-direction, problem-solving, and communication.
